Menurut Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia, ‘umpet’ atau ‘mengumpet’ berarti bersembunyi atau menyembunyikan diri.
Ide UMPET dimulai dari menciptakan lampu tidur dengan bentuk yang tidak seperti lampu pada umumnya. Inpirasi awal bentuk dari lampu Umpet adalah tenda Indian yang berbentuk limas segitiga dengan pintu di bagian depan. Seringkali replika tenda Indian digunakan untuk bermain petak umpet oleh anak-anak. Berangkat dari fungsinya sebagai tempat persembunyian, saya melihat bentuk tenda Indian juga dapat dikembangkan menjadi bentuk dasar Umpet dimana cahaya ‘mengumpet’ di dalam kerangka lampu tersebut sehingga berkas cahaya yang keluar tidak terlalu besar. Oleh karena itu, Umpet cocok untuk lampu tidur (bedside table). Pembuatan produk ini juga merupakan bagian dari eksplorasi material kardus yang ramah lingkungan. Selain itu dengan teknik melipat yang mudah, Umpet mengajak pengguna belajar sekaligus menikmati hasil kerjanya dengan metode swakriya.
According to the Indonesian Dictionary, 'umpet' or 'mengumpet' means to hide or conceal oneself.
The idea behind UMPET started with creating a bedside lamp that doesn't look like a typical lamp. The initial inspiration for the shape of UMPET lamp came from an Indian tent, which has a triangular cone shape with a door at the front. Often, replicas of Indian tents are used for playing hide and seek by children. Building on its function as a hiding place, I saw that the shape of the Indian tent could also be developed into the basic form of UMPET, where the light "hides" inside the lamp frame, resulting in a not too bright beam of light. Therefore, UMPET is suitable for a bedside lamp (bedside table). The production of this product is also part of the exploration of eco-friendly cardboard materials. Additionally, with its easy folding technique, UMPET encourages users to learn and enjoy the results of their work through the do-it-yourself (DIY) method.
The production of the UMPET model begins by using Duplex cardboard at a scale of 1:3 to minimize material waste. Then, through an exploratory process, it leads to the creation of the final prototype using single-wall corrugated cardboard with a thickness of 1.2 mm (E flute).
